Nedenfor en fin lille artikel om, at vejen til succes i livet ikke foregår uden bump eller afstikkere…

Rebounding

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a middle school
basketball game. I found the game to be fascinating and the
atmosphere to be most interesting. I was seated in front of
one of the players’ mothers.

This particular mother had the ability to vocalize in such a
way that her every word could be heard throughout the
building. Each time her son got the ball and prepared to
shoot, she would yell, “Get ready to rebound.”

My initial thought was: This is a horrible message to hear
from one’s mother as you are trying to shoot at the basket.
Her implication being that she assumes her son is going to
miss, and his teammates should prepare for a rebound. While
her sentiments were not timely or encouraging, “Get ready to
rebound” can be a great message for all of us.

One of the greatest failings among entrepreneurs, small
business people, investors, and corporate America is that of
always assuming the best.

I am among the most positive people you could ever meet;
however, I understand that part of optimistically expecting
a positive outcome is to have established the ground work of
preparing to survive life’s inevitable setbacks.

Recently, Tiger Woods won a golf tournament. This is not
earth-shattering news as he seems to consistently win golf
tournaments. What was unusual about this particular victory
was the fact that Tiger Woods played poorly all day.

After his tee shot on each hole, many of his subsequent
shots were played from the rough or sand traps. I believe
his struggle to victory on that day makes him a true
champion. Anybody can win when everything is going their
way, but true champions find a way to win in the face of
every adversity.

If you are in a startup venture and you have not yet had
your first crisis, you really don’t know where you are. It’s
much like a couple who has begun dating but have not yet had
their first disagreement. Success comes not from avoiding
problems and crises. It comes from surviving them.

In the final analysis, while we want to eliminate as many
difficulties as possible, we will all be forced to deal with
our share. Those who survive the misfires and get the
rebound live to fight another day, while those naive souls
who expected every shot to go directly into the basket are
overwhelmed when they inevitably miss.

As you go through your day today, look back at your previous
success and forward toward your future success while
realizing that you will define yourself not by hitting every
shot but by how well you rebound.
